Answers to Your Physio Pilates Questions

How does mat Pilates differ from reformer Pilates?

Mat Pilates relies on your own body weight on a mat to help build core stability, strength, and flexibility. Reformer Pilates uses a machine with a sliding carriage and resistance springs to provide variety and additional support.

Reformer Pilates is typically a fitness-based class that uses reformer machines, usually in larger group settings where participants follow the same exercises led by an instructor or screen. It may be a suitable option for general fitness if you do not have specific pain, injury, or rehabilitation needs.

Clinical Pilates is a more personalised approach, typically led by a physiotherapist in a smaller group setting. At Therapia Sports & Spine, Clinical Pilates classes are limited to a maximum of five participants, allowing your program to be tailored to your injury history, current movement, strength, flexibility, fitness level, and recovery goals. Your program may incorporate a range of Pilates equipment such as the reformer, multi-chair, trapeze table, ladder barrel, spine corrector, and mat-based exercises.

Core stability is a focus, but Clinical Pilates goes much further. It may also help improve postural alignment, strengthen pelvic floor muscles, reduce pain, and build flexibility, both internally and externally.
Not at all. Our classes are designed to accommodate you wherever you are in your fitness journey, whether you’re new to exercise, returning after injury, or simply looking to move with greater strength and confidence day to day.
We arrange regular check-ins at three to four weeks and again at eight to 10 weeks to review your progress and update your program as needed.
If the class you’d like is full, join the waitlist and we’ll send you an email as soon as a place becomes available.
