Your Physio Pilates Questions Answered

What sets mat Pilates apart from reformer Pilates?

Mat Pilates uses your own body weight on a mat in an effort to build core stability, strength, and flexibility. Reformer Pilates uses a machine with a sliding carriage and resistance springs to add variety and support.

Reformer Pilates is generally a fitness-focused class conducted using reformer machines, often in larger group settings where all participants follow the same exercises guided by an instructor or screen. It may be a good option for general fitness if you do not have specific pain, injury, or rehabilitation needs.

Clinical Pilates is more personalised and is usually led by a physiotherapist in a smaller group setting. At Therapia Sports & Spine, Clinical Pilates classes are limited to a maximum of five people, allowing your program to be tailored to your injury history, current movement, strength, flexibility, fitness level, and recovery goals. Your program may include a range of Pilates equipment such as the reformer, multi-chair, trapeze table, ladder barrel, spine corrector, and mat-based exercises.

Core stability is certainly a focus, but Clinical Pilates extends well beyond that. It may also help improve postural alignment, strengthen pelvic floor muscles, reduce pain, and develop flexibility, both internally and externally.
Not at all. Classes are designed to meet you where you are, whether you’re new to exercise, returning after injury, or simply looking to feel stronger and more confident day to day.
Regular check-ins are scheduled at three to four weeks and again at eight to 10 weeks to assess your progress and make any necessary updates to your program.
Should your preferred class be full, simply join the waitlist and we’ll notify you by email as soon as a spot opens up.
