Pregnancy Pilates Classes
What is it?
These are mat Pilates classes, run by trained physiotherapists, specially designed for pregnant women.
These classes are safe to attend from approximately 12 weeks, after the first trimester, until the end of pregnancy, if you are comfortable. (If you are keen to commence your classes earlier, you may like to check with your GP or obstetrician & get the all-clear).
The classes aim to target all the areas that are weakened through pregnancy, in order to prevent pain, improve stability and strength, and prepare your body for birth and beyond!
What are the benefits?
As you know, there are many changes that happen to your body during pregnancy. Hormones, such as Relaxin, are involved in loosening your joints and muscles, particularly around your pelvic region.
The added weight of your growing baby puts pressure on the lower back, stretches the structures at the front, and puts downwards pressure onto the pelvic floor muscles.
In addition, there are other changes that happen with your posture, and around the spine due to increased loading.
Pilates is a gentle, safe and effective form of exercise.
Our classes will aim to target core strength and stability, spinal health, general flexibility and strength.
These exercises can be used to combat some of the difficult changes that happen to your body during pregnancy.
Our classes are small, and so specific exercises can be added to target individual attendees’ needs.
