Pilates for the Active
Professional athletes of all kinds have discovered that adding Pilates to their training can improve performance, reduce injury, speed recovery and help their hardworking bodies stay balanced and healthy. For recreational athletes or simply athletic clients in general, we can provide the same benefits professional athletes enjoy. We offer a ‘10 week Pilates program’ in our Pilates studio so that you can see the results yourself. It involves working closely with our physiotherapists to achieve your specific goals and tailored exercise program. This will give you the opportunity to continuously see or change any existing goals that may help you further refine the skills of your sport and make sure you are getting the most out of each session.
Pilates is a whole-body exercise system that can develop strength, functional flexibility, coordination and balance in athletes wanting to improve their skills or return to activity following an injury. For this reason, Pilates often starts with the use of lumbar stabilization exercises. In athletic clients, greater stability of the lumbo-pelvic region can increase flexibility and generate power for throwing or rotational sports. The emphasis placed on core strength provides an environment of safety for your lower back. As you improve these skills, challenges such as unstable surfaces can be added to provide a higher level of difficulty while also working on balance!
We understand the demands of your chosen sport and can analyse the strength, range of motion, coordination and movement patterns necessary for success. Furthermore, we integrate proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment so that your body can work smoothly with each movement and become familiar with the functional mechanics of your body.
