Mums & Bubs Pilates classes!
What is it?
These are Pilates classes, run by a physiotherapist, specially formed for women who have just had babies. It is suitable from 12 weeks post-partum to approximately 8/9 months (or until your baby tries to crawl away from you!).
Depending on your birth experience, your obstetrician or midwife may be happier for you to start earlier, or want you to wait a little longer, so it is a good idea to get the all-clear from them before you start.
Mums & Bubs Pilates classes are a great way to help get your pre-baby body back and have fun, while also promoting the bond with your new little addition.
What are the benefits?
As you are aware, through pregnancy, there are many changes that happen to our bodies –
and often, new aches associated with pregnancy and childbirth.
The changes that occur as a result of hormones, carrying the extra weight of your growing baby, and the bodies’ preparation for a baby, may take a large toll on your spinal health and flexibility, pelvic stability and pelvic floor muscles.
On top of that, there is the birthing experience.
Whether it’s a natural birth, assisted delivery or C-section, all delivery methods have their hazards.
Pilates aims to restore the body to normal (or perhaps better than normal).
During the classes, we will be focusing on safe exercises to improve posture and spinal health, pelvic stability, pelvic floor strength, lower limb strength and flexibility, and abdominal strength.
