Our Physiotherapist, Mukul uses local Dry needling and Western acupuncture as part of his treatment.
The practice of ‘dry needling’ involves inserting an acupuncture needle into a trigger point and is typically used to treat the pain associated with injuries. A trigger point is a tender spot in a tight band of muscle which causes pain when pressed or squeezed.
Western Acupuncture could be renamed “acupuncture for physios” in that it is used to treat musculoskeletal conditions by inserting acupuncture needles into traditional acupuncture points. Western acupuncture tends to be a more superficial treatment than traditional acupuncture that focuses on restoring energy or “Qi” to the body. Recent research has shown that this creates local, segmental, spinal and supraspinal effects for pain modulation.
